Welcome to the Puerto Rican Cabotage Settlement Website

UPDATE: On August 30, 2011, the United States District Court for the District of Puerto Rico, issued an Order granting final approval of the Settlements. Click here to view the Court's Opinion and Order re: Settlement Approval.

After the court finally resolves any fee issues, the Settlements are fully funded, and the time to file any appeals has passed, or any appeals are resolved, we will begin the process of distributing benefits to Class Members who submitted valid claims.

If you paid for ocean shipping services (“Cabotage”) between Puerto Rico and the continental United States, you could receive a benefit from class action settlements.

The Settlement Class has alleged violations of the law including, but not limited to, a combination and conspiracy among all of the companies and individuals who are named as Defendants in the Class Action to raise, fix and maintain the prices of Puerto Rican Cabotage.

Four settlements (the “Settlements”) have been reached with (1) Horizon Lines, Inc., Horizon Lines, LLC, Horizon Logistics Holdings, LLC, Horizon Logistics, LLC and Horizon Lines of Puerto Rico, Inc. (collectively, the “Horizon Defendants”); (2) Crowley Maritime Corp. (“CMC”), Crowley Liner Services, Inc. (“CLS”) (collectively, the “Crowley Defendants”), (3) Sea Star Line, LLC, American Shipping Group, Inc., Saltchuk Resources, Inc. and Leonard Shapiro (collectively, the “Sea Star Defendants”) and (4) Alexander Chisholm (“Chisholm”) (collectively, the “Settling Defendants”) about an alleged combination, conspiracy or agreement to fix, maintain, raise or stabilize the prices of Puerto Rican Cabotage from at least May 1, 2002, to April 17, 2008 in an action captioned: In re: Puerto Rican Cabotage Antitrust Litigation, MDL 1960, pending in the United States District Court for the District of Puerto Rico. The Horizon Settlement, Crowley Settlement and Sea Star Settlement offer a pecuniary benefit in the form of cash or other non-cash benefits, while the Chisholm Settlement offers a non-pecuniary benefit in the form of cooperation with Plaintiffs in furtherance of the litigation.
